Brenntag AG is a European multinational chemical distribution company which operates in more than 70 countries worldwide. Brenntag is currently the global market leader in full-line chemical distribution. All Brenntag facilities adhere to ISO standards and HACCP food safety regulations. Brenntag is listed at the German Stock Exchange in the Prime Standard Segment since 2010.
An oil fire from a hydraulic drive and/or a high pressure hose in an unprotected pump room can rapidly bring destruction to all equipment. Chemical storage, processing and filling rooms incorporate an even higher fire risk. These facilities are also critical for the smooth and safe operations of other equipment down the line. Health & Safety officers then are required to protect and mitigate negative collateral effects across these spaces.
Design, install and maintain a fire suppression system that will protect the chemical station and pump room enclosures at Brenntag’s facility located in the Czech Republic. The enclosures have diverse fire risks and therefore, the technology needed to be effective against multiple classes of fire. It should also require as little maintenance as possible and be in line with Brenntag’s Health & Safety and protection of the environment (HSE) strategy. Likewise, the systems needed to autonomously monitor and protect the enclosures from various fire scenarios without human intervention.
To start with, the patented FPC compound found inside the generators is effective against various classes of fire that might be triggered by combustibles, flammable liquids and/or electrical fires (A, B, C, F). Next, the compactness and modularity of the system allows fire engineers to customise the design and efficiency according to project mission and space requirements. Furthermore, the FPC poses no active threat to operators and will remain environmentally friendly even after activation which is in line with Brenntag’s environmental policy. As a final point, the generators have a certified 15-year lifespan with no refilling requirements.
Detection and extinguishing systems were installed to both the chemical station and pump room enclosures through Brenntag’s facilities. Looming fires are detected and extinguished at a very early stage while alarms notify for the fire hazard. The systems can be easily reached providing for a convenient maintenance process. More importantly, there are no Health and Safety issues of concern in regards to the inactive units. Additionally, FirePro’s FPC compound 15-year life span and low system maintenance maximizes ownership benefits and value for the company.
