Baltic Yachts is a European superyacht building company based in Larsmo, Finland. It is considered to be one of the world leaders in the design, construction and engineering of high performance carbon composite yachts. Baltic Yachts has been integrating advanced building materials, steering, stabilization, energy regeneration and propulsion systems into state-of-the-art vessels since 1973.
The potential fire hazards present in this particular marine application include those caused by electrical faults, battery cell leakage and, of course, human error. As in any fire scenario, other combustible material within its proximity may ignite as well. It is vital that an effective and reliable fire suppression system protects against various classes of fire and can operate as early as possible to avoid a possible escalation of the fire to other critical compartments on board the vessel.
Baltic 142 Canova is the newest vessel of more than 550 produced by Baltic so far. It is equipped with state-of-the-art electrical equipment that captures, stores and reuses energy. Consequently, the engine room needs to be protected from electrically induced fires. The primary concerns regarding any fire extinguishing system that operates in the middle of the ocean are performance reliability and effectiveness. The system must be space and weight saving, have low maintenance requirements and be able to withstand perpetual vibrations.
FirePro systems are compact and light. They minimize the weight and space burden on board vessels with confined spaces. The system has an exceptional track record of reliability, and requires minimal maintenance over the years. In fact, FirePro’s condensed aerosol fire suppression generators have a certified lifetime of 15 years. More importantly, the generators are not pressurized and the agent - if and when released - is harmless to the environment. The Systems are in compliance with the Marine Equipment Directive (MED)2014/90/EU, holding Type Approvals from RINA and other IACS members according to IMO MSC/Circ 1270.
FirePro systems are currently installed in the engine room of Baltic 142 Canova to protect both its engine and its critical electrical equipment. FirePro technology will provide a highly effective fire suppression system against multiple classes of fire in case of an emergency situation within the enclosure. The efficiency, effectiveness, low maintenance and low footprint of the system, along with its long-life span and robustness, provide strong assurances and peace of mind to both crew and maintenance teams on board the vessel.
