Heesen Yachts is a European superyacht building company based in the Netherlands. It is considered one of the world leaders in the design, construction and engineering of all-aluminium high-performance motor-yachts. Since 1978, Heesen Yachts has launched more than 180 luxury yachts, many of which have won a number of prestigious international awards.
The fire risks involved in this particular application include electrical faults, battery compartment ignitions, accidents and of course human error. In a fire, any type of material/fuel may combust. It is therefore, vital that the fire extinguishing system is effective against various classes of fire and can operate as early as possible to avoid further harmful effects to assets or to human lives.
Luxury yachts are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The engineers on the Heesen YN 17145 yacht project, a 5-cabin, 45-meter sportster, were assigned to install a bespoke fire extinguishing system in the 193 m3 engine room of the vessel. The primary concerns regarding any fire extinguishing system in the middle of the ocean is performance reliability and effectiveness. The system must be able to withstand constant vibrations, be space and weight saving and have low maintenance requirements.
FirePro pre-engineered systems are compact and minimise the weight and space burden on vessels. They have proven exceptional reliability and require little maintenance. The EN classification declares FPC compound operational effectiveness for 15 years. FirePro poses no threat to human health when operated properly and is harmless for the environment and technical equipment. Critically, the systems are approved under the IMO directive MSC.1/Circ.1270 and are installed in line with Lloyds register and the American Bureau of Shipping requirements.
FirePro systems were installed in the engine room to protect both the engine and other critical equipment. The technology is approved by international Marine Standards and authorities and provides a highly effective fire suppression system in case of an emergency scenario. FirePro essentially are low maintenance systems and because of their long life span they provide further assurances to both crew and maintenance teams.
