Al Bayt Stadium is one of the venues that was built to host football matches for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in Qatar. The stadium’s design is said to reflect the inside of a Bedouin tent, coloured red, white and black. Al Bayt Stadium has a capacity of roughly 60,000 seats divided over three tiers. The pavilionlike roof is retractable and able to open and close in under 20 minutes.
Stadiums have multiple potential fire hazards for which protection is needed. The main hazards identified from previous fire incidents are mostly related to electrical equipment and other machinery. The safety measures to mitigate these risks vary depending on the type of venue. In this case, the primary focus is the protection of the Electrical Rooms, Switchgear and Battery Rooms. A fire incident in any of these areas can have catastrophic consequences especially during live events where spectators are present.
Design, install and commission in the stadium’s power infrastructure an automatic fire extinguishing system that incorporates early detection and suppression of fires. The machinery and equipment used are mission critical for carrying out the stadium’s countless operations during live football and other events. The primary task is the safeguarding of the people and the uninterrupted continuation of operations. The Project Fire Consultants selected the FirePro solution to protect 201 mission critical assets since it combined all the operational and technical parameters required. Filcom Fire International designed, installed, commissioned the system according to UL 2775 and NFPA 2010. The fire protection engineers carried out the installation adhering to all safety standards. FirePro technology currently proudly protects this national asset and enhances Al-Bayt’s environmental protection footprint with a green fire protection system.
