Perenco is a European oil and gas company with exploration and production activities in 16 countries around the globe. It is involved in both onshore and offshore operations with a daily production of approximately 250,000 barrels of oil. Perenco owns 50% and operates the El Franig, Baguel, and Tarfa gas condensate fields in South Tunisia.
Incidents involving electrically induced fires present a wide variety of hazards and risk to fire and rescue personnel. Defects on electrical systems, electrical devices and equipment, along with human error are a major causes of fire. Faulty/frayed insulation around cables and electrical equipment represents potentially a high fire risk. Fire protection in electrical equipment rooms is therefore of particular importance.
Design, supply, install, commission and maintain a fire detection and rapid reaction fixed active fire suppression system for two electrical equipment rooms located in El Franig and Tarfa gas condensate fields in South Tunisia. The system must be able to provide a fast, reliable and efficient response to tackle a fire scenario that can prove highly disruptive to field operations. The extinguishing system should be designed according to internationally recognized guidelines, rules and standards (i.e. NFPA 2010). Only approved systems would be used.
FirePro systems are of proven reliability and require little maintenance when compared to other fire suppression systems. The modular, pre-engineered FirePro generators protect conventional and speciallydesigned projects in compliance with international standards and operational rules such as the ISO 15779, NFPA 2010, UL 2775 and EN 15276. Notably, FirePro condensed aerosol is approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in normally occupied areas. Conclusively, FirePro systems reduce hazards to personnel and prevent financial losses due to down times.
FirePro systems were installed in both plants to protect electrical equipment and offer peace of mind in cases of fire incidents. With no piping required and no pressurized cylinders the systems were rapidly installed and are currently protecting critical equipment without posing a threat to operators or the environment.
